Shackled (2012)

  • Plot Summary: Malu is held captive by a circus but is rescued by her husband. As she waits for a chance to escape, a dark secret that she has hidden comes back in.
  • Directed by Nour Wazzi.
  • The short film stars Emilia Clarke and Hadley Fraser.
  • Shackled was nominated for the festival prize for the best short film at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in 2013.
  • Shackled was also nominated for Best Short Fiction Film at the London Short Film Festival in 2013
  • The short film also won the Golden Palm Award for the short film at the Mexico International Film Festival in 2014.

The Smiling Man (2015)
  • This short film is a mix of the Genres; Horror and Thriller.
  • Plot Summary:  A young girl is left home alone,however she soon finds herself facing a situation in the form of pure evil.
  • Director is A.J. Briones.
  • The Short film is 8 minutes long.
  • The Smiling Man stars; Abbi Chally, Strange Dave and Mellisa Chally.
  • Overall, The Smiling Man has had 5 Nominations and 12 wins. These wins include; The Audience Award for the Best Film Overall at the Another Hole in the head Genre Film Festival in 2015 and the Shriekfest award for Best Super Short film at the Shriekfest in 2015.

Dear Moderator, My name is Kathryn Thornton, Candidate 1620, and welcome to my OCR A2 Media Studies blog. Audience Feedback

Yesterday afternoon I showed my short film to a small focus group and asked them to fill in feedback forms with ratings out of five and comments. Here is an overview of all the marks I got for my feedback. One of the main criticisms of my Short Film was that the music was too repetitive. After receiving this feedback I went back to my short film and listened closely to the music. However, I have decided to keep the music as it does reflect the repetitiveness of my characters life and does effectively contrast to the atmosphere of the short film as a whole. Also, most audience members also said how the little amount of colour grading was effective as it made it more realistic and reflected the mood of the short film. They said that lots of colour grading would have ruined the message of the short film as a whole. Knole House Trip

On Friday the 30th of June 2017, we went to visit Knole House in Kent. Knole house is the home of Vita Sackville-west and the house where Virginia Woolf visited. We had a guided tour of the house, however, it took us a while to realise that the whole tour was a performance and was telling us about views on gender equality as well as telling the story of Orlando, based of Virginia Woolf's novel. The tour was based on a scientific investigation, where the forensic scientists were trying to de-contaminate the site in order to find out clues into Orlando's disappearance and also. work out the space-time continuum. On the tour we met, Greek Gods, Shakespearean actors, Georgian scientists, Vita Sackville-west and eventually Virginia Woolf herself. After lunch we had a lecture which gave us more information on views on Gender Equality in the past, and we found this session very informative.
