Research: The Baby Monitor

Image
I watched a Psychological Thriller called The Baby Monitor by RPI EMAC students, Frank and Zach Appio, which I watched for some further inspiration for the different types of Thrillers I can make for my short film.  Overall, I found the film extremely effective and scary which is what my idea of what a Thriller should be like. This is firstly shown through the tensing music which quickens in pace before a big occurrence or a climax in the plot. The film also has very effective filters which makes it more creepy and scary to watch. The short film is also very clever as it makes us feel sympathetic towards the main female character when she hears creepy sounds coming from the closet in the baby's bedroom, when really we should not as at the end we find out that she has imprisoned someone in the closet and supposedly plans to take her place. Furthermore, the film also has a very clear story line and layout which makes it easier for the audience to follow. Lastly, the film has, furthermore, gave me inspiration for what sort of story lines I could follow and make in the Thriller genre. Here is the short film, The Open Door by Dan Allen:

Therefore I decided to watch a film based around this Genre, in order to gain ideas on the types of story lines and effects the film uses. I decided to watch the 2016 film, Girl on the Train. Directed by Tate Taylor, Girl on the Train, is about a woman, called Rachel (Emily Blunt) who travels by train everyday to New York, and idolises a woman and her love life every time she passes the particular house. She is divorced from Tom (Justin Theroux) who has recently had a baby with new wife Anna. However, the girl Rachel idolises goes missing and Rachel becomes involved in the investigation into her disappearance.  I found the Girl on the Train very gripping and upsetting to watch as the film makes the audience connect with and sympathise with. The film also creates the scenario where Rachel admires and wants the life that Megan (Haley Bennett) has with Scott (Luke Evans), but several cross-c
