Girl on the Train Review

I have decided that I am interested in doing a short film relating to the Thriller Genre. Therefore I decided to watch a film based around this Genre, in order to gain ideas on the types of story lines and effects the film uses. I decided to watch the 2016 film, Girl on the Train.

Directed by Tate Taylor, Girl on the Train, is about a woman, called Rachel (Emily Blunt) who travels by train everyday to New York, and idolises a woman and her love life every time she passes the particular house. She is divorced from Tom (Justin Theroux) who has recently had a baby with new wife Anna. However, the girl Rachel idolises goes missing and Rachel becomes involved in the investigation into her disappearance.

I found the Girl on the Train very gripping and upsetting to watch as the film makes the audience connect with and sympathise with. The film also creates the scenario where Rachel admires and wants the life that Megan (Haley Bennett) has with Scott (Luke Evans), but several cross-cutting shots show that all is not what it seems in the life that Rachel so desires. Furthermore, the tension that builds up throughout the film and several twists and turns, where the audience does not know whether, Rachel's memories are real or not, which makes the film more interesting and entertaining to watch.

Here is a trailer for the film, Girl on the Train:
